Putting Magpies Meadow Wildlife on the Map

Saturday 13 June 2026, 9am-4pm


Join Norfolk Wildlife Trust as we try and see as many different animals and plants as we can in Magpies Meadow in 7 hours. Experts will be on hand to lead guided walks and help us with identifying what we find. Share your wildlife sightings and take part in a wildlife activity or join us on one or more of our free guided walks.


A bird in the hand - 9am to 10am

Or, a bird on our recording sheet! Join Jono Forgham as he explores Magpies Meadow in search of our feathered friends.

Hawks, pugs and snouts - 10.30am to 11am

Join us as we open up moth traps we set the night before to catch a glimpse into the fantastic world of these nocturnal creatures.

In search of peacocks, admirals, gatekeepers and other insects - 11.30am to 12.30pm

Jono Forgham will introduce us to some key identification features when spotting butterflies in flight and at rest, as well as helping us to spot other insects we may discover along the route.

Wild about flowers - 2pm to 3pm

Eyes down as we see how many different wildflowers we can find growing on Magpies Meadow. Our experts will share some top tips on how to identify some of the key species we find.

In search of night-time creatures - 9pm to 10pm

Join Norwich bat group and Norfolk Wildlife Trust as they go in search of the nocturnal wildlife found on Magpies Meadow. With bat detectors in hand we will listen to the calls of these fantastic flying mammals, plus we will keep our eyes peeled for moths and other nighttime creatures. Please bring a torch and wear long trousers and long sleeves.


Mini-bioblitzers - activities for children

Minibeast safari - 10am to 11am, 11.30am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 3pm

With magni-jar in hand we go in search of the fantastic minibeasts found at Magpies Meadow. From grasshoppers to crickets, caterpillars to bugs – help us record as many different animals as we can in these 1 hour sessions

Hit the trail

For little ones you could start at Harleston library and follow the nature trail to the meadow.
