We have some very good news. Our application for funding from South Norfolk Council was successful. We have been awarded £10,000 pounds for our project at Rushall Road. We have also secured a free tree pack from the Woodland Trust.

We have been out and about explaining our plans. Last month we gave a presentation to residents of Terrence Airey Court. It was a very enjoyable afternoon with many questions and offers for help. We held an exhibition charting the progress of community nature recovery from a desire in the Neighbourhood Plan of October 2022 to our Greenspace project. We also supported hands-on activity days at the Harleston Library and Brockdish Common to build bug houses.

We will be holding a public session at St John’s Church on 6 November, so that is a chance for you to find out more about the plans and ask questions. We will publish more details next month.

At the time of writing, our proposal was still dependent on a successful ‘change of use’ planning application to permit public access to the field. This should have gone to the SNC Planning Committee on 24 September.

We are going to get things started with an initial biodiversity survey, marking out the different habitat areas and enhanced path route, and sorting out insurance and risk assessments. We will be looking for volunteers to help plant our Miyawaki forest in November or December. Don’t worry, we have a fallback arrangement should our planning application fail. The trees will find a home.

Our idea of adopting or sponsoring trees in a What 3 Words parcel of land is being well received and we will soon release further details along with other sponsorship packages.
