It has been extremely hot weather, but the meadow is surviving. It is wonderful what nature can do for herself. However, she does need some help at times.
We are planning to remove the weeds and top up the mulch to the Miyawaki forest area when it is not quite as hot, and the ground is not baked hard. There will be the equivalent of about 200 small bags of mulch to lay. So, if you can spare some time to wheelbarrow much, and help protect our mini forest it will be greatly appreciated, just send us an email for dates and times.
Round 2 of the South Norfolk Council (SNC) Nature Conservation Funding has opened. We presented our project as an example of what can be achieved. This time we are considering an application to open the mature woodland area to the rear of the meadow.
The next session of the Waveney Volunteers for Nature is 7 September at 10:00am. They will be running a session to demonstrate and teach people how to scythe. So, if you would like to learn this is your opportunity.
A handrail has been installed at the bridge. Thank you to James from OJ Fencing for providing his time for free. SNC will soon be improving the access gradient to the bridge, and we will be creating a seating area at the entrance to the meadow.
