It has taken a long time to get to this point, but we are very pleased to say that work has now started on the field to create a nature conservation site.

Local people joined the Waveney Volunteers for Nature on a crisp Saturday morning for the first round of cutting the grasses for the hay meadows.

It is hard work but very satisfying and a good way to exercise and enjoy the open air while helping nature to recover. We spotted our first vole. So that is another one for the baseline assessment. Unfortunately they were too quick and didn't stay for a photo.

We piled the cut grass into a very impressive mound at the side of the site which will provide a great environment for grass snakes.

The next volunteer session is on Monday 29 December. That is a chance to work off some of the Christmas excess.
