Fundraising Evening

There was a fun social evening in The Swan Hotel on Thursday to allocate the w3w squares to our Miyawaki forest sponsors. A big reveal was that the conservation area will now be called 'Magpies Meadow' in recognition of it being a previous home to the Harleston Magpies Hockey Club. We were honoured to welcome Pat, who remembers playing hockey on the meadow. The Magpies Hockey Club at the Meadow, that one deserves a special photo when the weather is better.

County Councillor Martin Wilby who has donated £2,000 from his Members Funding, drew the names of sponsors from one bag, and Adam from DA Brownes was selected from the audience and drew the names of the squares from another bag. Sponsors include individuals, families, dedications for loved ones, and organisations and businesses. A full list of the allocations can be found at https://www.harlestongreenspace.co.uk/sponsors-miyawaki.

The Harleston Ladies Tangent handed over a presentation cheque for their sponsorship for which we are very grateful. All 24 available squares were quickly snapped up by generous sponsors, and we greatly appreciate the £2,400 raised. There remains one square, that in the centre of the forest, which we held back for a future event. So keep a look out for news about that square.

The event which also included a nature themed quiz and raffle to raise more money for the project. Congratulations to 'Waveney Volunteers for Nature' the winning team of the quiz who each received a chocolate Easter egg and and to Peter Stroll who won the overall prize of a bird next box which will be engraved with his name and installed on 'Avian Avenue' at the meadow.

The evening raised over £220, so a very big thank you to everyone who came along to show their support and to the people who donated themed prizes.

If you missed the quiz. Here is a taster. Can you name the cartoon characters?

We may run another event, so keep a look out.
