It has been a very busy time. We held two action days. Firstly, an Introduction to Wildlife Recording where we learned how to identify and record what we see in the natural world, even at home. We are looking to add a monitoring section to our website. This was followed by the ‘Bioblitz Day’ where we held sessions in search of birds, moths, butterflies, flowers, and bats at the meadow. Thank you to Norfolk Wildlife Trust for running the event and to everyone who turned up and supported the project.
The improved weather has brought the meadow to life. So much has happened in such a short time. We now have a Magpies Meadow name on the gate, and we are working on signage and seating.
Officers from South Norfolk Council visited all the sites they helped through their Nature Conservation Fund. We were delighted to welcome them to Magpies Meadow. They are very pleased with the progress we have made and look forwards to hearing about further plans. Many of our kind sponsors came along, so there should be some very good group photos.
The good work of Harleston Greenspace CIC was presented at a nature conservation seminar in York arranged by Ian Carstairs and the Carstairs Countryside Trust. Our community provides inspiration for others far away.
There was always going to be a time before Magpies Meadow would look like anything more than an old farm field, but it is beginning to take shape. The weather is now warmer, and we would love to welcome more people to our group. It provides an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while getting some exercise.
