Harleston Greenspace

Greenspace News
As part of South Norfolk Council's commitment to support nature recovery, and connect residents to accessible greenspaces, they are running a 'Nature Conservation Fund'. This scheme allows local communities to receive up to £10,000 for biodiversity projects.
The focus is on: projects that actively contribute to tackling carbon emissions; enhance local ecosystems by supporting a diverse range of plant and animal life; and create and improve green spaces that are accessible and enjoyable for the entire community.


Digging Deep
The Conservation Volunteers have been on site with the heavy equipment. The Miyawaki forest is taking shape. A digger was used to dig the area to a depth of 1.4m and turn it over. Most of the trees have been planted with mycorrhizal fungi added to enrich the soil and woodchip as a mulch. A fence has been installed to protect against deer and rabbits and we will mark out the w3w squares. The final trees will be planted by our kind sponsors in their w3w square, in the new y

The Work has Started
It has taken a long time to get to this point, but we are very pleased to say that work has now started on the field to create a nature conservation site. Local people joined the Waveney Volunteers for Nature on a crisp Saturday morning for the first round of cutting the grasses for the hay meadows. Exciting news! After months of hard work, reems of paperwork, planning and funding applications, it is official; Harleston Greenspace CIC are the proud custodians of the meadow on Rushall Road; a new community greenspace secured for local people, by local people. We have some very good news. Our application for funding from South Norfolk Council was successful. We have been awarded £10,000 pounds for our project at Rushall Road. Planning Application Approved
South Norfolk today approved the planning application for ch ange of use from agricultural to land for community use. Cllr Trevor Graham: "This is a well thought through proposal, with much support. Our Plans Receive Funding
SNC today sent a letter 'We are pleased to inform you that in principle, the Application has been successful in achieving grant funding. South Norfolk Council (SNC) has agreed to make an award of £10,000 to fund the planting of a mini forests and the creation of a circular path'.
